George Fox University announces two tenure-track faculty positions in the William Penn Honors Program, to begin in August 2018. The William Penn Honors Program offers a Great Books curriculum that serves as a selective general education track within the university. All courses in the WPHP are co-taught between two professors in a Great Books seminar mode.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Candidates will teach 24 credits per year: 18 credits of Great Books seminars within the honors program, and 6 credits outside of honors.
  • Candidates will participate in the broader academic life of the university and normal tenure review process.
  • Candidates are expected to develop and sustain an ongoing program of relevant scholarship.
  • Candidates will contribute service to the honors program, specifically student engagement, mentoring, and recruitment, as well as serving on university committees as needed.  


  • A Ph.D. in philosophy, theology, New Testament, or art history.
  • Candidates from the above fields should have specialization or competency in one or more of the following areas:
    • Medieval philosophy and/or theology, esp. Aquinas
    • New Testament, esp. the theological interpretation of scripture
    • History and Philosophy of Science
    • An art historian who is conversant with the history of ideas
  • Experience with Great Books education is desirable.
  • Experience and/or interest in student engagement and recruitment. Commitment to working with a diverse population of students.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  • All applicants must express a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a local church. In addition, professors agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Salary and Rank

Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated, though candidates with significant teaching experience at previous institutions may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.  Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.
