George Fox University Libraries announces a non-tenure track faculty Research and Instruction Librarian position to begin January 2019. As a liaison to assigned areas, the librarian develops rich professional relationships with faculty, undergraduate students, and graduate students. Joining the librarian team of six, responsibilities include teaching information literacy, participating in collection development, and supporting research helps services.

University Libraries Mission and Vision

The libraries are supported by staff and faculty committed to vibrantly living out the Be Known promise daily. At the front desks, the access services team offers library and technology assistance. The technical services team diligently prepares materials for use. The university archives provides opportunities to explore our history guided by the archivist. Behind a web of cables and tech tools, the digital learning director supports faculty with pedagogically-focused teaching strategies and just around the corner, librarians are ready to walk alongside students and faculty throughout the research process. A small selection of current work contributing to the university's "Be Known" promise includes our textbook affordability program, an archives internship program for students, 24/7 study space at the Newberg campus library, personalized research consultations offered in a variety of formats, and a growing digital repository of student/faculty scholarship, including two open textbooks published in 2018.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Develops and maintains strong liaison relationships with faculty in assigned subject areas.
2. Welcomes and fosters productive relationships with graduate and undergraduate students in support of their academic career, research needs, and professional development.
3. Develops and teaches relevant and appropriate information literacy sessions in support of the Libraries' strategic plan, specific course goals, and objectives.
4. Competently uses effective and proven teaching and learning pedagogies to enhance student learning and build relationships.
5. Provides research help consultations to the GFU community in-person, phone, email, chat, and video. This includes instruction in the use of resources and guidance in developing critical thinking and research strategies.
6. Assumes collection development responsibilities as assigned. Partners with faculty to build and regularly evaluate the collection.
7. Creates and maintains library and discipline-specific research guides. For example, oversees development of content for web-based subject guides in assigned areas, and develops course guides where needed for specific classes.
8. Promotes digital literacy and participates in digital fluency initiatives.
9. Participates in faculty governance including committees.
10. Contributes to the shared work of the Orbis Cascade Alliance.
11. In support of one's personal development, participation in professional groups and associations expected. The librarian will contribute new knowledge and desire to learn new information to spur innovation.
12. Communicates effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public.
13. Serves as a Christian role model to students by actions, words and lifestyle.
14. Performs other duties as assigned based on university needs, interests, and expertise.

Required Qualifications

1. Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
2. A commitment to working with a diverse population of students (including students of color, first-generation college students, international students, etc.) is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.
3. Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of George Fox University including seeking ways to put students first, practice Christ in everything, and innovate to improve outcomes.
4. All applicants must express a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a local church. In addition, professors agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Preferred Characteristics

1. Academic library experience.
2. Experience or interest in health sciences.
3. Additional graduate work or degree.
4. Relevant experience providing research consultation and information literacy instruction.
5. Understanding of instructional pedagogies (including blended and online instruction) and emerging technologies.
6. Interest in teaching and learning innovations and best practices related to information literacy.
7. Evidence of demonstrated success in advancing diversity, equity and inclusion, and the ability to foster just and trusting relationships across all differences.
8. Ability to articulate the mission of Christian Higher Education.

Salary and Rank

Appointment at the Assistant Librarian level anticipated. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.
