George Fox University announces a non-tenure or tenure-track faculty position (Director of Clinical Education) in the School of Medical Science, to begin in no later than July 2019.  The director of clinical education reports to the program director (or designee), helping secure supervised clinical practice experiences and making sure they meet current practice standards as they relate to the PA role in providing patient care. In addition, the following essential duties apply to this position.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise the Clinical Scheduling Coordinator
  • Under the guidance and approval of the program director, seek out and maintain supervised clinical practice experience (SCPE) sites and preceptors
  • Perform initial and follow up SCPE site visits and evaluations to ensure the site/s (1) enable students to meet program expectations and acquire the competencies needed for a clinical PA, (2) provide adequate patient exposures, (3) have adequate resources, and (4) provide for student safety
  • Visually confirm a preceptor license is current and in good standing and they are board certified (if appropriate) during initial evaluation and annually thereafter (sooner if needed).
  • Provides guidance, training, and ongoing communication as needed for clinical preceptors
  • Coordinate and schedule all clinical rotations, end-of-rotation assessments, and rotation assessment days
  • Dispense and review all (1) clinical assessments of students by preceptors and (2) student assessments of rotation sites and preceptors
  • Gather data and review each clinical site for patient demographics, settings, disciplines, and competency acquisition
  • Review, maintain, coordinate, and issue the program's Clinical Handbook annually
  • Develop, administer, and report mid-term, end-of-course, and all other clinical assessments
  • Security for all course and examination materials
  • Advises program director of any problems related to student behavior, clinical performance, or professionalism
  • Gather, coordinate, process, and report data on students, faculty, adjuncts, and preceptors using GFU's PA program tracking system (to satisfy program, institution, and ARC-PA requirements)
  • Supports and participates in the following program processes (if assigned)
    • Developing, reviewing, and revising as necessary the mission statement for the program
    • Selecting applicants for admission to the PA program
    • Providing student instruction
    • Evaluating student performances
    • Academic counseling of students
    • Assuring the availability of remedial instruction
    • Designing, implementing, coordinating, evaluating curriculum
    • Evaluating the program
  • Assists in the interview and selection of faculty members
  • Provides security for all course and examination materials
  • Attend all scheduled staff and faculty meetings
  • Participate in activities of state, regional, and national organizations to promote a positive image of the PA concept within academic, lay, and professional communities.
  • Represent the PA Program through service on University-level committees.
  • Pursue professional development activities such as clinical practice, scholarly works, or an advanced degree.
  • Other duties as assigned by the program director

Qualifications

  • PA principal faculty are required to hold current NCCPA certification as a condition of employment
  • Doctorate degree or higher in a health related field. Master's degree considered provided applicant is enrolled and can complete a doctorate program within three years.
  • Demonstrated abilities in teaching and curriculum development
  • Strong interpersonal abilities with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, preceptors, clinical site staff, and organizational administrators
  • Familiarity with the use of computers for organization, word processing, and communication
  • Enthusiastic about working in a collaborative environment
  • Self-motivated with refined organizational skills
  • A commitment to working with a diverse population of students is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.

Salary and Rank

Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated, though candidates with significant teaching experience at previous institutions may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.  Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.
