Adjunct Instructor in Costume Design

George Fox University announces a part-time, adjunct position in Performing Arts with a specialization in costume design for fall semester (begins August) 2020. The successful candidate will have expertise and experience as a practitioner of costume design, and teach the following costume design course:

THEA 380: Costume Design: 3 hours. A study of the elements and principles of costume design for the theatre. Students will develop skills in play analysis for costuming, basic rendering skills and period research. The class will include an introduction to the various media used in communicating a costume design concept. Additional course fee is required. Prerequisite: THEA 130 Stagecraft or instructor's permission.

 Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (MFA) in a relevant field required. Exceptions will be made for candidates with professional costume design experience in the theatre and film industries.
  • Strong technical skills in figure drawing, gesture drawing, watercolor technique and rendering.
  • Strong script analysis skills, and the ability to use those skills to create high quality design concepts.
  • Ability to teach the principles and elements of design as they relate to costume design.
  • A commitment to working with a diverse population of students is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.
