George Fox University announces an adjunct faculty position in Mathematics, to begin in August 2021.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Primary teaching responsibilities involve three to six hours of weekly lectures for lower division courses in our Mathematics curriculum. The courses being taught are two sections of Precalculus in the Fall of 2021 and one section of College Algebra in the Spring of 2022.
  • Course Description for MATH 190 Precalculus: A course for students who are preparing to take calculus or other courses requiring a similar background. In addition to studying the topics found in a college algebra course, this course will focus on trigonometry and an introduction to exponential and logarithmic functions. Prerequisite: high school algebra or its equivalent. Students who have taken MATH 180 College Algebra may not take this course for credit.
  • Course Description for MATH 180 College Algebra: An algebra course designed for students who have a good background in high school algebra and are prepared to cover the major topics of algebra in more depth and breadth. Applications of algebra will be emphasized in this course. This course does not serve as a prerequisite for the calculus sequence. Prerequisite: high school algebra or equivalent.
  • The lectures are presently scheduled for 12:00-12:50 PM and 2:00-2:50 PM on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the Fall Semester and from 1:00-1:50 PM Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the Spring Semester. If necessary, the lecture times can be adjusted to suite the adjunct's schedule.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or higher is required in Mathematics or another related field with preference given to candidates holding an advanced degree.
  • Applicants should have professional experience in related industries and/or teaching experience in related fields.
  • Instructors will be expected to meet class regularly, manage and give feedback on assignments, be available for communication with students, and work professionally and collegially with all students and faculty.
  • A commitment to working with a diverse population of students is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.
  • All applicants must express a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a local church. In addition, professors agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.
  • Candidates must have legal authority to permanently work in the U.S. and employees of George Fox University must be a resident of one of the following states: Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho, New York, Ohio, or Texas.
