Adjunct Instructor of Art and Design/Interior Design

George Fox University announces a part-time, adjunct position in Art and Design with a specialization in Interior Design, for the semesters Fall 2020 and Spring 2021. The successful candidate will have expertise and experience as a practitioner of Interior Design, and teach the following courses:

FA 2020: 

Materials and Resources  (4 units of load)

Study of materials used in the built environment with emphasis on the interior. Students develop knowledge of material characteristic, selection, application, installation methods, and industry regulations. Students produce product specifications following Master Specification standards. Additional course fee is required.

SP 2021:

Interior Foundation I (4 units of load)

This is the first studio in a sequential series of interior courses in which students apply their skills, knowledge and understanding of the design process to living environments. Emphasis is placed on the interrelationship of design elements and principles, spatial organization and sequencing, and conceptual problem solving in three-dimensional space. 

Informed Interior II: Building Codes (3 units of load)

This course examines the codes and regulations for the built environments with emphasis on their application in commercial interiors. Students are required to determine occupancy types and loads, means of egress, compartmentalization, and a variety of fire protection systems and their locations. Students apply ADA regulations. Other major industry-specific regulations are also discussed.

Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (MFA) in a relevant field required. Exceptions will be made for candidates with NCIDQ certification and or 5+ years of interior design industry practice.
  • Strong skills in interior design software
  • A commitment to working with a diverse population of students is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.
