Adjunct Instructor of Social Work

George Fox University announces an adjunct position in Sociology, to begin in August 2017.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide classroom instruction of one section of: SOCI 366 Social Change. Examines the nature, causes and consequences of inequality in society. An understanding of how social resources are distributed, and the resulting distribution of life chances, is central to understanding the fundamental bases of social order and social organization. This course takes a sociological approach to the study of inequality in which we argue that inequality is a characteristic of societies, not individuals.
  • Using text selected by department, prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts. Integrate Christian faith into classroom discussions. Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers in a timely manner. Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions. Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records, and record these in university system in a timely manner. Schedule office hours for individual instruction as needed.
  • Depending on course enrollments, one additional course in Principles of Sociology may be available in the fall. One or two Sociology classes may also be available during Spring 2018 semester.

 

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Sociology required; Ph.D. preferred. An applicant who holds an undergraduate degree in Sociology combined with a graduate degree in a related field (e.g. Social Work, Criminal Justice) will be considered.
  • Teaching experience at the college level preferred.
  • Must be available Tuesday/Thursday mornings in the fall and Monday/Wednesday/Friday mornings in the spring.
  • A commitment to working with a diverse population of students is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.
