Adjunct Mechanical Engineering Instructor

George Fox University announces a part-time, adjunct instructor position in Mechanical Engineering, to begin in August 2021. The successful candidate will teach Engineering Mechanics - Statics, and/or a senior-level ME elective in the fall semester of 2021 (8/30/21- 12/17/21) in the format of a face-to-face or hybrid class. If necessary, the lecture times can be adjusted to suit the adjunct instructor's availability.

Responsibilities include either or both of the following courses offerings:

  • Teaching ENGM 211 (Engineering Mechanics - Statics) on Mon/Wed/Fri, at both 9:00 to 9:50 am and 10:00 to 10:50 am in the fall (8/30/21- 12/17/21)
    • Course description for ENGM 211: Static force and moment vectors, resultants. The free-body diagram is used extensively to understand the equilibrium of a whole physical system through isolation of each component, particle, or body. Applications to simple trusses, frames, and machines. Distributed loads. Internal forces in beams. Properties of areas, second moments. Laws of friction.
  • Teaching ENGM 485 (senior-level elective) on one or two evenings per week at 6:00 to 8:50 pm or 7:00 to 8:50 pm, respectively, in the fall (8/30/21- 12/17/21), or other times TBD.
    • Course description for ENGM 485: A senior-level course that can either provide more technical depth in an area of mechanical engineering or survey an area of mechanical engineering that is of current relevance to students.
    • If interested, please provide a course description of what you would like to teach along with learning objectives.

Qualifications

  • Holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field combined with graduate-level course work or experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Teaching experience at the college level is preferred.
  • A commitment to working with a diverse population of students is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.
  • All applicants must express a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a local church. In addition, professors agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.
  • Candidates must have legal authority to permanently work in the U.S. When employed by George Fox University, employees must be a resident of one of the following states: Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho, New York, Ohio, or Texas.
