Assistant Professor, George Fox Honors Program

George Fox University announces a full-time tenure-track faculty position in the George Fox Honors Program, to begin in August 2022. The Honors Program offers a Great Books curriculum that serves as an selective core curriculum track within the university. Most courses in the program are part of a historical sequence from the ancient world to the 20th century, typically co-taught by two professors in a Socratic discussion seminar mode, with only very occasional lectures.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Teaching 24 credits per year: 18 credits of seminars within the Honors program, and 6 credits outside of Honors.
• Participating in the broader academic life of the university and normal tenure review process.
• Developing and sustaining an ongoing program of relevant scholarship.
• Contributing service to the Honors program, specifically student engagement, academic and spiritual mentoring, and recruitment, as well as serving on university committees as needed.
• Potential for teaching reduction for taking on additional administrative duties within the program.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a humanities discipline. We are interested in candidates with wide-ranging academic interests, especially in literature, arts, and/or post-medieval theology. Applicants who are A.B.D. in a Ph.D. program will be considered, but must have earned a Ph.D. by the time of appointment.
• Experience and/or interest in student engagement, spiritual formation, and recruitment.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching is required, and experience with Great Books education is desirable.
• A commitment to working with a diverse population of students is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.
• All applicants must express a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a local church. In addition, professors agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.
• Candidates must have legal authority to permanently work in the U.S. When employed by George Fox University, employees must be a resident of one of the following states: Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho, New York, Ohio, or Texas.

Salary and Rank

Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated, though candidates with significant teaching experience at previous institutions may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.
