Assistant Professor of Cinematic Arts

George Fox University announces a tenure-track position in Cinematic Arts with a specialization in Film/Video Production, to begin August 15, 2021. The committee seeks a working practitioner with significant professional and teaching experience, a broad knowledge of contemporary and historical cinematic arts and media context, as well as an understanding of the technical, critical, and theoretical issues in contemporary cinematic arts education.

Cinematic Arts program mission statement: To train and empower influential media artists and storytellers who engage issues of faith and authentic human experience.

Responsibilities include:

• Teaching a range of Cinematic Arts (CINE) courses during academic year, in areas such as video and audio production, cinematography, editing, directing, and film studies.
• Teaching a full load of 24 course units, averaging 12 per semester, in face to face settings, with potential for hybrid and remote teaching as needed.
• Management of program equipment and software.
• A program of scholarship and research suitable for a tenure track faculty member at a primarily teaching institution.
• Participation in department level service including but not limited to academic advising for major and minor students in Cinematic Arts, participation in regular program meetings, program level assessment and curriculum development processes, and other duties as assigned by the program chair and or school director.
• University level service on 1-2 campus wide committees or working groups

Qualifications

• MFA or equivalent degree from an accredited institution in a field of film production or a related discipline; or a BA or BFA degree along with significant, sustained, and exemplary professional experience
• Prior teaching experience at the college or university level.
• Experience with media equipment maintenance and basic repair.
• Commitment to excellence in undergraduate media education.
• Evidence of research production through presentations at national levels.
• Demonstrated record of professional integrity and strong work ethic, collegiality and commitment to equity and inclusion.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive working environment and work collaboratively with colleagues and community
• A commitment to working with a diverse population of students is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.
• A willingness to engage a robust continuous improvement process including outcomes based assessment of curricula and programming
• Demonstrated success and or aptitude for remote, hybrid, and face to face instruction.

• Candidates must have legal authority to permanently work in the U.S. When employed by George Fox University, employees must be a resident of one of the following states: Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho, New York, Ohio, or Texas.

Preferred Qualifications

• Terminal degree (MFA) in Film Production or related field
• A sustained, significant evidence of professional practice and research in Film/Video production including cinematography or directing.
• Experience supervising and mentoring students in the context of internship and practicum work.
• Excellent communication skills, with evidence of leadership, organizational, and management skills which would suggest aptitude for recruiting and outreach potential, to both grow the program and industry connections to the major.

Salary and Rank

Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated, though candidates with significant teaching experience at previous institutions may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.
