Assistant Professor of New Testament

George Fox University announces a tenure-track faculty position in New Testament within the Portland Seminary, to begin on August 15, 2019.

Rank: Assistant Professor, but open to exceptionally qualified candidates at the Associate level.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Teaching
    1. Teach general and specialized courses in New Testament. Responsibilities may include teaching a course in spiritual formation.
  2. Scholarship
    1. Actively engage in scholarship in academic guilds as called for in the George Fox University Faculty Handbook
    2. Demonstrate capability to connect academic discourse in biblical studies and the vibrant life of the church
  3. Service
    1. Participate in the ongoing support of the seminary and university programs and curriculum.
    2. Support the relationship between the seminary/university and ecclesial communities
    3. Serve on faculty committees, participate in the life of the university and seminary community, provide academic advisement to students, and engage in other duties associated with fulltime faculty members.

Qualifications

  • All applicants must express a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a local church. In addition, professors agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statementand affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.
  • A PhD in New Testament. ABD will be considered but only if PhD will be in hand by August 15, 2019.
  • Teaching experience, and commitment to support, traditional classroom, online, and hybrid course delivery at the graduate level.
  • Demonstration of scholarship, such as academic conference presentations and peer-reviewed scholarly publications.
  • Commitment to training both women and men as pastors and ministry leaders.

  • All candidates must have legal authority to permanently work in the US.

Salary and Rank

Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated, though candidates with significant teaching experience at previous institutions may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.  Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.
