Job Description


George Fox University is seeking a part-time (9 month - 0.5 FTE), non-tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor for its doctoral program in physical therapy (DPT). The ideal applicant will instruct in coursework related to neurological rehabilitation and have a variety of neurorehabilitation experiences including in a neurologic residence program treating patients in multiple settings including outpatient, inpatient, acute care and ICU. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to personal clinical excellence and have experience with teaching entry level-DPT students in the classroom.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design, development and evaluation of the curriculum.
  • Participate in the development of individualized learning objectives.
  • Assist with CAPTE and accreditation documents.
  • Provide instruction, supervision, and counsel to students.
  • Participate in the identification and recruitment of qualified applicants for enrollment into the DPT program.
  • Participate in the life of the university community, and other duties as assigned by the Director of the DPT program.
  • Participate in clinical related activities.

Academic Responsibilities

  • Teach didactic and laboratory courses in their area of expertise.
  • Assist in other laboratory/clinical courses as needed.
  • Assist students with their doctoral research projects.

Scholarly Responsibilities

  • Be instrumental in using professional publications, professional presentations and other scholarly outlets to establish and maintain regional and national recognition.
  • Support and/or be involved in ongoing research that will improve clinical training within the program as well as within the profession.
  • Identify sources for and participate in the preparation and implementation of grants.
  • Maintain a program of scholarly activity appropriate with academic rank and CAPTE accreditation standards.

Position Requirements

  • Earned DPT degree in physical therapy
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Oregon
  • Minimum 3-years in clinical practice with participation in an accredited ABPTS residency program OR 5-years in clinical practice
  • ABPTS certification in Neurologic Physical Therapy
  • Expertise in neurologic rehabilitation with clinical experience in a variety of clinical settings including acute care (neuro ICU preferred), inpatient rehabilitation, and outpatient clinics
  • Demonstrated commitment to the growth and development of entry-level DPT students in clinical practice
  • Prior teaching experience in an entry level DPT program
  • Excellent communication skills with colleagues and entry-level DPT students
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the profession of physical therapy
  • Design and conduct independent and/or collaborative research in clinical education or related areas
  • Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers


Accountability

This faculty position reports directly to the College of Physical Therapy Associate Dean/Program Director.
