Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition

George Fox University announces a tenure-track faculty position in English, to begin in August 2023.


Job Responsibilities Include, but Are Not Limited To:

  • Teaching introductory and advanced courses in writing and composition theory
  • Teaching courses in the major (both writing and literature), in the university's Cornerstone Core (general education) program, and possibly in the Honors Program (Great Books)
  • Direct a university undergraduate writing program and providing training to writing center tutors
  • Developing and/or sustaining an ongoing program of relevant scholarship.
  • Participating in the work of the department and the university, including academic advising and serving on university committees.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We're Looking for Candidates Who Have:

  • D. in Rhetoric and Composition or a Ph.D. in English with significant training/experience in rhetoric and composition. Experience in teaching literature at the university level is desired.
  • Additional preferred areas of emphasis for teaching and scholarship include linguistics and/orcontemporary literature, e.g., 20th/21st century literature/Transatlantic literature. Generalist faculty with wide-ranging teaching interests are encouraged to apply.
  • Training or experience in online pedagogy is desirable.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching is essential.
  • A record of relevant scholarship/publication is essential.
  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Salary and Rank

Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.
