Assistant/Associate Professor of Music, Director of Bands and Music Education

George Fox University announces a tenure-track faculty position in Music, to begin in August 2018. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in our highly successful music education program, as well as providing leadership for one or more of our musical ensembles.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Direct the University Band and Music Education programs
• Teach Music Education courses such as Methods, Instrumental and Choral Techniques, and Foundations of Music Education.
• Assist the department chair with selected administrative duties related to the instrumental music and music education programs.
• Possible additional duties depending on qualifications:
  • Direct the University Symphony Orchestra.
  • Oversee instrumental applied music instructors.
  • Supervise student teachers.
  • Advise our active student chapter of NAfME.
• Maintain connections with the music education community in our immediate area and the Pacific Northwest, via Oregon Music Educators Association, CBDA and/or other professional organizations.
• Participation in the work of the department, including departmental recruitment activities.

Qualifications

• A master's in Music, Conducting, Music Education, or other relevant field is required; a doctorate in one of these areas is preferred.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching and instrumental conducting at the secondary school level or university level is essential. Familiarity with and a strong reputation in the music education community in the Pacific Northwest is desirable but not required.
• A commitment to working with a diverse population of students (including students of color, first-generation college students, international students, etc.) is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.
• A record of relevant professional activities (clinics, adjudication, etc.) is preferred.
• All applicants must express a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a local church. In addition, professors agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Salary and Rank

Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated, though candidates with significant teaching experience at previous institutions may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.
