Associate Director of Seminary Doctoral Programs

George Fox University introduces a new half-time associate director position with the seminary doctoral team. This is not a remote position.


About the Job:

The Associate Director of Seminary Doctoral Programs provides the opportunity to work with an amazing, Christ-centered team dedicated to investing in people who are making a difference in the world. The Seminary Doctoral Program develops confident, Christian leaders skilled in addressing ministry challenges. This associate director position works with the program director in an annual cycle of assessing applicant admissions portfolios and conducting interviews, supporting student success, facilitating doctoral summative project committee evaluations, overseeing in-person intensives in domestic and international locations, and monitoring weekly cohort zoom sessions.

Job Responsibilities Include, but Are Not Limited To:

  • Screening applicants, provides MDiv equivalency evaluations, conducts admission interviews, and makes admission decisions on roughly 60 candidates per year. 25%
  • Overseeing DMin face to face intensives in domestic and international locations (individually or jointly with other DMIN team members). 15%
  • Supporting struggling students. This includes serving as dissertation and doctoral project advisor/instructor for students seeking to re-enter after Leave of Absence or after falling behind in their program course sequence. 25%
  • Facilitating Project Portfolio or Dissertation committee evaluations. 15%
  • Working with the Doctoral Team on innovation initiatives. 10%
  • Monitoring weekly cohort zoom sessions. 10%
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
  • Other duties as assigned.

A Day in the Life of This Position:

A day in the life of this position involves significant time in collaborative administrative meetings with the doctoral team or the director, for planning and executing elements of the doctoral programs. Much time is also devoted to correspondence by email or zoom with students, applicants, and faculty/advisors. All of this is for problem-solving and decision making in the administrative and academic aspects of recruiting, supporting, and retaining quality students in our seminary doctoral programs.


We're Looking for Candidates Who Have:

  • A Doctoral Degree in a ministry-related, theologically informed field.
  • Detailed knowledge of doctoral program expectations, admission requirements, and ATS standards.
  • Flexibility and pastoral skills to work with struggling students for retention in the program.

  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Preference Will be Given to Those Who Have the Following Attributes:

  • Pastoral ministry or high level leadership role within a Christian organizational context.
  • 3 years of experience teaching in seminary or Christian higher education.
