Director of School Communication and Design, University Professor

George Fox University announces a tenure-track faculty position in Communication/Cinematic Arts with responsibilities as the Director of the School of Communication & Design, to begin August 15, 2024. The school includes the Departments of Communication & Cinematic Arts as well as Art & Design. The successful candidate will be an experienced educator who will both teach coursework in Communication/Cinematic Arts and do the administrative work of School Director, with course release for the latter. They will also maintain an active program of scholarship and service to the institution. We seek a colleague who is innovative, collaborative, embraces digital media, cultural diversity, and has a global perspective.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or M.F.A. in Communication, Cinematic Arts, Media Studies, or related disciplines.
  • Prior teaching experience and demonstrated teaching ability in classes at the undergraduate level.
  • Evidence of research production through presentations at international, national, regional and/or professional conferences as well as through publications in related disciplines.
  • Leadership experience in university settings that demonstrates the ability to contribute to a positive working environment and work collaboratively with colleagues and community.
  • Experience in strategic planning and personnel management
  • Demonstrated record of professional integrity and strong work ethic, collegiality and commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • A commitment to working with a diverse population of students is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred. Demonstrated success and or aptitude for remote, hybrid, and face to face instruction.
  • All applicants must express a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a local church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as a department chair, associate chair or program director
  • Excellent communication skills, evidence of organizational and management skills which would suggest aptitude for recruiting and outreach potential to grow programs and industry connections to school.
  • Previous work in university external relations and/or advancement
  • Teaching and research strengths which complement current departmental curriculum.
  • Demonstrated appreciation for the arts (via professional work, networks, training, avocation, etc.)

Salary and Rank

Appointment at the Assistant/Associate Professor level is anticipated, though candidates with significant experience at previous institutions may be considered for appointment at the rank of Full Professor. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions. This position is a 12--month contract.
