George Fox University announces a part-time, adjunct instructor position in the Department of Performing Arts to begin in August 2021. The University Players is a touring theatre ensemble that travels the northwest bringing thought-provoking drama to schools, churches, and prisons. Through its 40+ years of ministry, the University Players have inspired and challenged audiences through music and drama to reflect deeply on God's active presence in our lives. The stories told by the University Players are original scripts created by the students and the director. Simple props, costumes, and instruments are used to enhance the presentations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the Director of the University Players:
  • Audition and select the ensemble.
  • Rehearse with students during the official weekly schedule: THEA 165/365: University Players.
  • Rehearse with the ensemble outside of the weekly class schedule as needed.
  • Serve as lead devisor, creator and collaborator for the ensembles touring set of stories, plays, and music.
  • Collaborate with the ensemble to determine the set of touring plays for the season.
  • Collaborate with the ensemble to select and securing touring production elements for sound, props, minor set pieces, costumes, etc.
  • Work with ensemble tour coordinator to set touring schedule.
  • Tour with the ensemble to churches, schools and prisons.
  • Serve as point person and representative for the University and the Performing Arts Department while on tour.
  • Provide spiritual leadership for the spiritual health of the ensemble

Qualifications

  • BA in Theatre Arts (MFA preferred)
  • Possess strong skills as a director, teacher and acting coach for beginning and advanced actors, with strong organizational skills in time management (both in the rehearsal process and on the road).
  • Have strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A heart for theatre ministry and a desire to serve as a spiritual mentor for the ensemble through prayer, fellowship, and relationship building.
  • A commitment to working with a diverse population of students is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.
  • All applicants must express a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a local church. In addition, professors agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.
  • Candidates must have legal authority to permanently work in the U.S. and employees of George Fox University must be a resident of one of the following states: Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho, New York, Ohio, or Texas.
