Research and Instruction Librarian

George Fox University Libraries announces a non-tenure track faculty Research and Instruction Librarian position, to begin Spring 2020. Contributing to the Libraries' mission, a place for holistic connection, innovative creation, and authentic contribution, the Research and Instruction Librarian develops rich professional relationships with faculty, undergraduate, and graduate students. As a member of the librarian team, the Research and Instruction Librarian partners with faculty to understand their research and information needs, offers essential and timely research services to students, and delivers relevant pedagogically-appropriate instructional sessions. The librarian serves as a liaison to colleges, schools, and departments as assigned, potentially including the Portland Seminary

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Develops and maintains strong liaison relationships with faculty in assigned subject areas.
• Welcomes and fosters productive relationships with graduate and undergraduate students in support of their academic career, research needs, and professional development.
• Creates, sustains, and assesses campus partnerships that contribute to student success.
• Develops and teaches relevant and appropriate information literacy sessions with faculty in support of the Libraries' strategic plan, specific course goals, and objectives.
• Competently uses effective and proven teaching and learning pedagogies to enhance student learning and build relationships.
• Provides research consultations to the GFU community in person and via phone, email, chat, and video. This includes instruction in the use of resources and guidance in developing critical thinking and research strategies.
• Assumes collection development responsibilities as assigned. Partners with faculty to build and regularly evaluate the collection.
• Creates and maintains library and discipline-specific research guides. For example: oversees development of content for web-based subject guides in assigned areas, and develops course guides where needed for specific classes.
• Promotes digital literacy and participates in digital fluency initiatives.
• Participates in faculty governance, including committees.
• Contributes to the shared work of the Orbis Cascade Alliance.
• In support of one's personal development, participation in professional groups and associations is expected. The librarian will contribute new knowledge and seek to spur innovation by learning from others.
• Communicates effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public.
• Serves as a Christian role model to students by actions, words and lifestyle.
• Performs other duties as assigned based on university needs, interests, and expertise.
• Occasional travel between library locations.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
• A commitment to working with a diverse population of students is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.
• All applicants must express a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a local church. In addition, professors agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.
• Candidates must have legal authority to permanently work in the U.S. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Academic library experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently.
• Record of ongoing professional development.
• Relevant experience providing research consultation and information literacy instruction.
• Understanding of instructional pedagogies (including blended and online instruction) and emerging technologies.
• Interest in teaching and learning innovations and best practices related to information literacy.
• Evidence of demonstrated success in advancing diversity, equity and inclusion, and the ability to foster just and trusting relationships across all differences.
• Ability to articulate the mission of Christian Higher Education.

Salary and Rank

Appointment at the Assistant Librarian level is anticipated. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.
